I have since upgraded to a smart phone which has not made me any smarter and which I consistently drop instead of flip. But as we approach Holy Week in a new year, the sentiments and giggles remain!<\/p>\n<p>Please note a new and important announcement regarding future blogs at the end of the post-<\/p>\n<p>MS Negotiates Holy Week<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kar3nt-ai-generated-8819985_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kar3nt-ai-generated-8819985_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7111\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7487437185929648;width:210px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Friends- my blog takes an aspect of my life living with <strong>multiple sclerosis<\/strong> and then pokes gentle fun of that aspect. For me, religion is a big part of my life and thus, is where this particular blog post developed.\u00a0Please don\u2019t let the religious topic alienate you as I think whether or not you attend Church, you will relate to some of the things I mention.<\/p>\n<p>BUT, if you\u2019re looking for some faith-based fun and inspiration, all the better!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1stcommunionmealone-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"254\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1stcommunionmealone-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7100\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.6773830786531719;width:158px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>I grew up a casual Catholic, receiving the main kid\/young adult sacraments while hardly ever going to church. Then I unofficially stepped away from my faith for a bit- meaning, I got lazy and just didn\u2019t think about it too much.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere between 10-15 years ago God compelled me to walk back into the church of my childhood and I instantly realized all that I had missed.\u00a0The point being, I am now a practicing pretty devout (although that word is hard to define,) Catholic.\u00a0And so I should be pretty familiar with how and when things go when it comes to Mass.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Leave it to <strong>multiple sclerosis<\/strong> to throw that off a bit!<\/p>\n<p>You can probably guess some of the obvious ways that <strong>MS<\/strong> tries to mess with my faith, like when it comes to fatigue.\u00a0Since there&#8217;s a shortage of priests (anyone thinking of becoming a priest- do it!\u00a0 The church needs you and no worries; the vestments are way cooler than they used to be!) my parish priest is the priest of two parishes which means Mass on Sundays is at 8:30AM.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kostkarubika005-alarm-clock-5433374_640-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kostkarubika005-alarm-clock-5433374_640-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7101\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4954041748990636;width:221px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Who the hell, oops, I mean heck, is even up at that hour????\u00a0There\u2019s no way <strong>MS<\/strong> is going to let me get out of bed at that time every Sunday.\u00a0Luckily, there is a vigil mass the night before.<\/p>\n<p>Of course the cognitive difficulties don\u2019t help, especially since just last year the powers that be revamped the wording of some crucial and common elements of Mass.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(Ok, they actual made these changes several years ago but it seems just like yesterday.)<\/p>\n<p>When someone says \u201cPeace be with you,\u201d if you respond, \u201cAnd also with you,\u201d you haven\u2019t been to Mass in a really, really long time.\u00a0Or you have <strong>MS<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/geosilva2003-star-wars-5155607_640-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/geosilva2003-star-wars-5155607_640-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7102\" style=\"width:242px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>(If you start thinking of Darth Vader that just means you\u2019re a child of the 70\u2019s.)<\/p>\n<p>If you are Catholic and are constantly trying to figure out the best time during Mass to use the restroom without being too disrespectful, you may have <strong>MS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And you would think the whole stand, sit, stand, kneel, stand, kneel, sit again thing would be tough but since it\u2019s really the only exercise I\u2019ve been getting lately, I\u2019m ok with it.<\/p>\n<p>But this Holy Week <strong>MS<\/strong> threw some different church related issues my way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It started at the Palm Sunday vigil.\u00a0My friend and I had gone together and we both wanted to make Lenten confessions.\u00a0She went in first and was in there for a really, really long time!!\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tank153-ai-generated-9164134_640-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tank153-ai-generated-9164134_640-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7103\" style=\"width:198px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>What could she possibly be confessing too???\u00a0The whereabouts of Jimmy Hoffa?<\/p>\n<p>Since our priest had to start Mass soon I was getting pretty anxious, so much so that as she opened the door to the confessional, I grabbed her and yanked her out!<\/p>\n<p>(Ok, that\u2019s not quite true.\u00a0There was actual a guy ahead of me.\u00a0It was him who I really yanked out.)<\/p>\n<p>Back in our pews, we suddenly heard this booming voice from hidden speakers welcoming us to church.\u00a0Mass usually starts with a hymn.\u00a0I grasped the pew and began looking all around.\u00a0Was this it?\u00a0Was Jesus returning to Earth, right then in my little parish?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ok, if it was, that would be a good thing but I must have looked a little panicked anyway as my friend giggled and reminded me that the voice was our Priest using a microphone from the vestibule behind us, blessing the palms before the opening hymn.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/studio2013-palm-4211167_640-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"196\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/studio2013-palm-4211167_640-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7104\" style=\"width:255px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>I\u2019ve been to Palm Sunday masses several times.\u00a0I should have known this but I guess this little bout of confusion is a good reminder to be prepared, HE can return at any time.<\/p>\n<p>Then there was the issue of where to put my palms.\u00a0They are long and delicate and there is really no place to put them. My friend was on the inside of our pew and nobody was next to her so she had tons of room to lay her palms down.\u00a0I did not.\u00a0I certainly couldn\u2019t put them on the floor- these were a symbol of Jesus\u2019 triumphant entry into Jerusalem; the floor was no place for palms.\u00a0It didn\u2019t seem right to put them behind me in case I crushed them or sat I on them.\u00a0This became quite a frustrating problem. I finally decided to put them in the little box where the church keeps the missals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My palms promptly started to fall to the floor.\u00a0I saved them just in time and then did my best to carefully prop them in the spot so that they would safely stay there.\u00a0The problem was solved just as my priest arrived to bless them and I had to quickly disassemble and raise them, only to get them blessed and start the safely propping process all over again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/thedigitalartist-emoji-1584282_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/thedigitalartist-emoji-1584282_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7112\" style=\"width:249px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>My friend just shook her head in disbelief.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS<\/strong> and I managed Holy Thursday and Good Friday ok.\u00a0The next issue came at the Easter vigil.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Due to the two parish issue this service was being held at the OTHER church.\u00a0My priest needs to alternate this service yearly since it is a long Mass and this year was THEIR turn.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t like it.\u00a0I like my church.\u00a0My church is perfect. My church does everything perfectly, including collection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/billithecat-graphic-4177075_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/billithecat-graphic-4177075_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7105\" style=\"width:203px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>See, at my church we have ushers who have baskets with long handles and all you have to do is toss your money into it.\u00a0If your aim is bad, that\u2019s ok because the ushers enjoy playing a fun game of catch the bills with their baskets and it always works out ok.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the OTHER church has a basket they pass around and I\u2019m just not used to that. I was at the vigil with another friend and when the basket came to her, she went to hand it to me and my hand did one of those <strong>MS<\/strong> jumpy\/leapy things, the same jumpy\/leapy thing that causes me to accidentally flip my flip phone into the air.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(And my friends want me to upgrade to a smartphone- yea right, like that would be smart. Total <strong>MS<\/strong> random thought, if I am constantly, unintentionally flipping my flip phone would I actual learn to be smarter with a smart phone?)\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/aristal-ai-generated-8751500_640-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"241\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/aristal-ai-generated-8751500_640-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7106\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7532033426183844;width:173px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Anyway, back to the collection basket. When my hand did the jumpy\/leapy thing that could also be clumsiness but I\u2019m blaming <strong>MS<\/strong> like I always do, my friend accidentally jolted the basket and some of the money fell out.\u00a0She grabbed it and put it back in but was totally mortified.\u00a0 Personally, I thought it was kind of funny.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t think much of it, until the second collection when the usher wouldn\u2019t give us the basket!\u00a0 Clearly, he no longer trusted us. Wow.\u00a0Those parishioners at that OTHER parish are so uptight.<\/p>\n<p>Or, perhaps, he was just saving us the embarrassment of another basket fail.\u00a0Maybe he was actually trying to make it easier for us- no worries for the clumsy ladies- he was on it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And even though the choir at the OTHER church wasn\u2019t my church\u2019s choir and the stained glass windows weren\u2019t the stained glass windows at my church, they were both pretty cool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tanrica-ai-generated-9427692_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tanrica-ai-generated-9427692_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7108\" style=\"width:224px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>And the people were pretty cool too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And I suppose Jesus probably doesn\u2019t love THEM more than he loves us.\u00a0So I guess the point is, we are all in our faith together and we are all brothers and sisters of Christ.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No actually, as this is an <strong>MS<\/strong> blog the point has to be about <strong>MS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So, the real point is that, me, life, faith, and God, we can all handle whatever <strong>MS<\/strong> decides to throw at us!\u00a0And sometimes, we\u2019ll even make a joke about it.\u00a0Or turn it into a blog..<\/p>\n<p>Happy Spring, Passover and Easter everyone!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/garten-gg-flower-3219718_640-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/yvonnedesousa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/garten-gg-flower-3219718_640-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7109\" style=\"width:290px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-ef9e1ed5 gb-headline-text\">Announcement-<\/h4>\n<p>The subsciber feed for yvonnedesousa.com has become a bit too expensive. This leaves me with two options. I can either shut the subscriber feed down and just post new blogs on my social media sites or, narrow the number of subscribers down to the affordable option. <\/p>\n<p>Neither option is ideal. However, I think I may have several old email addresses in my feed folks who no longer read the blog. So I am going to try to clean out the list a bit and see how that works. <\/p>\n<p>If you have signed up any time from 2023 to now, your email will be saved. If you have been a subscriber longer than 2023, I may accidently remove you without realizing you are still an avid follower. To avoid that, which would be awful, feel free to write to me on the contact tab above and I will know to keep your email address on the subscriber list. <\/p>\n<p>New followers can still subscribe to the feed.<\/p>\n<p>I am going to wait a couple of months so that everyone who wants keep getting my blogs emailed has time to contact me and I will remind you in the April and May blogs. I expect to make all changes before the release of the June blog.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much for you support.
