We very rarely get the train (just because of dizzies etc) and when we do we always make sure to go at nice, quiet train times, when there are plenty of seats. But this one time it was not possible to wait for the next train without being very late.<\/p>\n<p>Even though we were super determined to get a seat, we got scared and realised that it can be really hard to ask someone for a seat. I did not manage it! And instead, we ended up sitting squashed in-between feet on the floor for the whole journey&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It was not the greatest&#8230; but it has got us thinking of ways in which it can maybe be a little easier to ask for a seat in the future&#8230;.maybe <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10783\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240624_175227.jpg?resize=525%2C394&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cards and badges<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are lots of cards and badges out there that are easily accessible for people to carry with them. Dizzy now has quite a collection! <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/> And they can provide a visual way of letting people know that you need a seat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10784\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240624_174225-1.jpg?resize=525%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p>TfL offer this one for free! So you can keep a card in your bag to show people, or wear the badge so there is a noticeable sign on you at all times when travelling. You can order both of these from the TfL website <strong>here.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10781\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240624_174607.jpg?resize=525%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.mssociety.org.uk\/page\/108077\/donate\/1?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=&amp;utm_campaign=2024M2032_8845&amp;utm_content=search_newprop&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw1emzBhB8EiwAHwZZxbNFQCOfL0ROovKIfYbiEPZFVwdreP-wGDDq5ZGbSdYLv02oyTLLqBoCMxQQAvD_BwE\"><strong>MS Society <\/strong><\/a>also offer a card that you can keep with you. It states that you have MS and the different requirements you may need because of it. Lanyards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As well as badges and cards, there are also lanyards available to show people that you may need a little extra help.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10780\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240624_174809.jpg?resize=525%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We like these ones, as they have sunflowers on (and Dizzy thinks they make her look rather dashing!). But they do cost a small fee. They can be found <strong>here <\/strong>to purchase, and come with card options if wanted. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Asking people and planning what to say<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-10786\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Dizzythedonkey-train.jpg?resize=580%2C408&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"408\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the part I find really scary &#8211; asking people if I can have their seat, especially as there are no outwards signs that I actually need one. But someone suggested to Dizzy that having sentences prepared to say beforehand could be really helpful. These are the ones we have thought of, so we are all ready next time, and don&#8217;t have to worry about mind blanking when we get scared. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Staff support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All railway networks also offer staff support and assistance with travel. This does sometimes need to be booked in advance, but part of the service is to help you find a seat on the train. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10798\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240628_110200.jpg?resize=525%2C570&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"570\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We mostly use Southeastern, which can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southeasternrailway.co.uk\/travel-information\/more-travel-help\/accessible-travel\"><strong>here\u00a0 <\/strong><\/a>and lists all the ways they can help. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Disabled railcard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, if you do have MS, you automatically qualify for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk\/?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw7ZO0BhDYARIsAFttkCi-UloetLPBYvEPMywhaJk5WhesnVtF36MDKRjhjNC1DZNtJA-KBKAaAoOaEALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\"><strong>Disabled Persons Railcard<\/strong><\/a>! It is \u00a320 a year (or \u00a350 for 3 years) and gives you and a career 1\/3 off all of your railway journeys. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10779\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dinosaursdonkeysandms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/20240624_174415.jpg?resize=525%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p>How have you found traveling on busy trains with a disability?
