“We have no choice in how MS will affect our lives, but we do have the ability to stay in the game and play the cards we are dealt. Sure, this can involve some bluffing and making it look easier than it really is, but it’s important to continue showing up and playing each day as though the odds will work in our favor.”
– Dan Digmann
You’ve probably seen my smile, heard my optimism, and thought, “Dan is handling his MS so well.”

But here’s the truth: my optimism is something I have to work at every day—and it’s rooted in some very real, very raw experiences.
In my recent essay for MS Focus Magazine – The Barenaked realities behind my MS optimism – I pull back the curtain and share a slice of the story behind the attitude.
And yes, a Barenaked Ladies song plays a starring role.
“Odds Are” has quickly become more than just a catchy chorus for me in my life with this chronic progressive disease. It’s a reminder that the odds are in our favor more often than we think.
That message fuels my hope, even on the hard days
I encourage you to check out this piece and see why optimism doesn’t always mean everything is OK—it just means we’re choosing to keep going anyway.
